Emma Guttman-Slater is a proud Oakland resident who brings a love for people and a curiosity about life to her work. As the Strategic Communications Director at Beneficial State Foundation, Emma runs initiatives aimed at changing the banking system from one that is extractive, to one that lifts up communities and nourishes the planet. She believes that everyone has the power to make change and that finance can be a tool for social equity. Emma’s background is in neighborhood stabilization and community lending, with a stint organizing for President Obama in 2012. Emma was a fellow with Avodah and Bend the Arc and studied anthropology at Yale University. She is a lifelong seeker of social justice, an organizer with CreativeMornings Oakland, and especially loves to bask in the wonders of nature.
